There are different ways on how to change the URLs for your WordPress site, depending on which method you are more familiar with.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Before you go ahead with the steps, take note that you need to change both the website URL and the WordPress URL. They always go hand in hand. While they are of different essence, they have to be of the same link for them to stay connected.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

With that taken care of, here\u2019s how you can change your WordPress URL in 4 ways:<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

1. From WordPress<\/strong><\/h2>\n

On your WordPress dashboard, you should see a menu on the left side of your screen. Go to <\/span>Settings<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You will see the following items that you will need to modify:<\/span>
\n<\/span>WordPress Address (URL)<\/b>
\n<\/span>Site Address (URL)<\/b><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Usually, they are kept to the same web address to prevent confusion and ensure that all changes reflect right away to your website itself.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Once you\u2019re done, click on <\/span>Save Changes<\/b>.<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

2. From cPanel – phpMyAdmin<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Prior to making any changes, make sure you have a backup of your WordPress database.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Login to your cPanel dashboard. Under <\/span>Database<\/span><\/i>, select <\/span>phpMyAdmin<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The phpMyAdmin page will now load. On the left side, you will see the name of your database, and a menu selection below. Select <\/span>wp_options<\/b>.
\n<\/span>(By default, it will show this name. If you have changed your WP database, it will be this prefix with _options.)<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The right side of your screen will load up showing this:<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Click on the <\/span>Edit <\/b>icon beside <\/span>siteurl<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>home<\/span><\/i>. The page should now look like this:<\/span><\/p>\n

Update the <\/span>option_value<\/b> text field with your desired URL. Before clicking on <\/span>Go<\/b>, make sure that <\/span>Save<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>Go back to previous page<\/span><\/i> is selected, to bring you back to the preceding page where you can click on <\/span>Edit<\/b>, this time for the <\/span>home<\/span><\/i> section. It should be the same process then to change the <\/span>home<\/span><\/i> URL.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Using FTP client – functions.php<\/strong><\/h2>\n

For those who are more familiar with FTP workarounds, and also for those who cannot access the Settings page of WordPress, this is the recommended method.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Login to your cPanel account using FTP client. For these steps, we are using CoreFTP for Windows.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Under \/public_html\/your-wp-folder\/wp-content\/themes\/your-wp-theme\/, you should see this screen:<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Right click on <\/span>functions.php<\/b>, and click on <\/span>Edit<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Notepad (or your selected text editor) will now launch. Add these at the bottom of the text:<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

update_option( ‘siteurl’, ‘https:\/\/yourwebsiteurl.com’ );
\n<\/b>update_option( ‘home’, ‘https:\/\/yourwebsiteurl.com’ );<\/b><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Replace the URL with your preferred web address, and save your changes.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

4. Using FTP client\u00a0 – wp-config.php<\/strong><\/h2>\n

If you cannot locate functions.php, this is the method we suggest. From \/public-html\/your-wp-folder\/, look for <\/span>wp-config.php<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Right-click and select <\/span>Edit<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Your text editor will pop-up. Look for the text <\/span>\/* That\u2019s all, stop editing! Happy publishing.*\/<\/b>. Paste the following text above this line:<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

When you\u2019re done, save your changes.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

After successfully changing the URL, always check on your new link to see if everything is working. You can always come back to the same steps to check which parts you may have missed, and you should be good to go.<\/span><\/p>\n
